Our curriculum
A child-centred approach that helps children discover their potential and become curious, lifelong learners.
Developed by the Italian physician Dr Maria Montessori and based on scientific observation of children, the Montessori method develops children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.
It builds an organised, engaged and focused mind, and prepares children to be good citizens, future innovators and confident leaders.
Principle one
Principle two
Activities that teach children to care for themselves and their environment: grace and courtesy, self-care, and care of the classroom. They build independence, self-confidence and the ability to face new challenges.
Materials designed by Dr Montessori to help children express and classify what they experience through their senses. Matching and grading activities isolate sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
Mathematical ideas are introduced with concrete materials. Children explore number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence and number sequencing with their hands before moving to the abstract.
Materials such as the sandpaper letters and the moveable alphabet build vocabulary and introduce written and spoken language. Children learn phonetic sounds, compose words, and express their own thoughts and feelings.
Music, stories, artwork and objects from the child’s community and the wider world. Cultural activities develop creativity and fine motor skills, and an appreciation of the world around them.
